Dimapur, Oct. 2 (EMN): Felicitation of sanitation workers marked the conclusion of a week-long ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration held across Nagaland coinciding with the 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2.
In Dimapur, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) carried out a cleanliness drive within the town and also observed Photography Day on the theme “Justice to environment,” followed by felicitation of sanitation workers.
In a short programme held at the DMC’s office premises, the best sanitation workers were awarded to Darma Rao, Betol Chishi and Gandhi Doom with cash and certificate. The awards were given away by Mahesh Agarwal, former DMC advisor.
During the programme, more than 170 sanitation workers including rack pickers and waste entrepreneurs were also felicitated with certificates of appreciation.
Meanwhile, DMC informed that the results of photography and waste to art competition would be declared on October 11. Interested candidates are asked to submit their materials latest by October 9.
The photography competition is being organised in collaboration with ‘Achano Photography Studio.’
The culmination of a week-long ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration, organised by Longleng Town Council (LTC) was also held in the office premises of the deputy commissioner, Longleng, on October 2.
An update from LTC informed that a mass social work was also carried out from 6 am to 8 am in all the wards to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti.
The thematic event was followed by felicitation of six waste entrepreneurs and seven sanitation workers (Safaimitra Amrit Samman Samaroh) and waste to art exhibition (Bartan Bhandars).
Speaking at concluding programme, Roukuosetuo Tetso, nodal officer and extra assistant commissioner (EAC), thanked all the participants including the ward leaders led by Longleng Town Wards’ Union president, L Chuba Phom, for their proactive response and coordination to successfully carry out various activities in all the wards within LTC jurisdiction.
It mentioned that the week-long ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ kick-started on September 29 by D Robin, ADC and LTC administrator, with an awareness workshop on “Waste Segregation” on the theme “Kachra Alag Karo Amrit Divas” for all the wards.
