‘City Tower’ misnomer persists despite clarifications, says JCF
DIMAPUR —The Joint Council Forum (JCF), Dimapur, has issued a clarification regarding the incorrect usage of the name ‘City Tower’ to refer to an area in Dimapur.
In a press release, it stated that ‘City Tower’ is actually the name of a building that currently houses HDFC and Bandhan Bank, and not the name of an area or colony, as mistakenly believed by some.
It said that despite previous clarifications made by senior citizens and some councils, the incorrect usage of the name ‘City Tower’ persists in official correspondence by the general public and even the Dimapur Municipal Council.
Noting that the iron structure at the centre of the three colonies’ junction was originally named ‘Clock Tower’ by previous administrators and local leaders, the JCF advocated for the proper use of this name to avoid any confusion among the public.
Additionally, the forum suggested that the Dimapur Municipal Council should allocate funds to repair and reinstall the clocks on the tower, which are currently in disrepair.
In all official communication, the JCF urged the use of the official name ‘Clock Tower’ or the names of the respective colony or road rather than ‘City Tower’ to prevent any future misunderstandings or discrepancies.
