Agartala, May 3 (IANS): The CPI-M affiliated trade union body CITU said on Thursday that it will lodge a complaint with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for obstructing holding of programmes in Tripura in connection with the International Labour Day.

Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Tripura unit Secretary and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Lok Sabha member Sankar Prasad Datta said that the ruling BJP workers attacked programmes on May 1 in connection with the International Labour Day.

“The BJP workers either attacked or created obstruction or threatened CITU leaders and workers against holding various events in connection with the International Labour Day in many places in Tripura,” Datta said.

He said that the bank employees, tea garden workers, brick kiln workers and workers of other sectors could not observe the International Labour Day.

Datta said that the CITU would lodge complaint with the ILO in this regard.

“India is the member of the ILO. Such violent development would tarnish the image of the Indian government.”

The BJP denied the CITU allegations, saying that after losing power the CPI-M affiliated body cries in vain as they lost the support of the workers too was needlessly blaming the saffron party.
