Citizens urged to be self-reliant, not dependent

Kohima, Oct. 26 (EMN): The Thenyizumi Union of Kohima conducted its biennial ‘social gathering’ in the multi-purpose hall of the IG Stadium on Sat., Oct. 26 in Kohima during which community members were urged to shed the ‘dependence syndrome,’ and be self-reliant.
The director of Treasuries and Account, Vahine Thisa, delivered a short speech at the event. She lamented that the society was being ‘misled by dependence syndrome.’ She exhorted the people to be self-reliant, ‘independent.’
Likewise, she urged the gathering to fear God and build their foundation in faith.
It is the key to good life, she said. Thisa felt that the society was changing at a fast pace. She expressed the need for the people to cope and catch up with the times.
The official advised citizens to pursue good character and be truthful in all ways of life. She advised the gathering to also be people of integrity and to lead a trustworthy life.
Exhorting the students, Thisa urged them to be consistent and hardworking in their studies and to cultivate a value for hard labour saying that there was no substitute to it. She advised them to be well-disciplined.
The principal of Khelhoshe Polytechnic at Atoizu in Zunheboto, Mhaseto Nakro delivered a short speech at the programme.
Nakro exhorted the youngsters to respect elders saying that it will bring to them blessings. He urged them to be sincere in their work and deeds, develope a sense of unity and be peacemakers in the society.
The official advised the gathering to also pursue alternatives other than government jobs calling the rush for economic avenues in the state ‘one-way traffic.’ He maintained that the students need to look for other ventures through skill development and entrepreneurship for their livelihood.
A new team of TUK executive to lead the organisation was also instated during the event. The team is led by Vezhoto Nakro as chairman, for the tenure 2020-23.
