The first Mokokchung Film Festival showcases local talent, with 'Plastic' winning Best Film at the Town Hall event.

DIMAPUR — The first Mokokchung Film Festival was held at the Town Hall, Mokokchung, on January 25.
The event was organised by the Mokokchung district administration in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and NFDC Cinemas of India, according to a DIPR report.
In his welcome address, the Assistant Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajay Moktan, extended his gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, for his vision in conceptualising the festival.
Welcoming creators, storytellers, students, and civil society organisations, Moktan remarked, “Cinema is more than entertainment; it is a powerful medium that reflects society, preserves culture, and inspires change.”
The audience was also addressed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Atsungba Walling, who emphasised the vital role of cinema in the era of globalisation while calling for ethical storytelling. Actor Bendang Meren Ao provided a detailed highlight of the festival’s objectives.

The programme was chaired by Kewimesin Nriame, EAC Mokokchung, and the invocation was led by Teyalo Seb, pastor of Tenyimia Church, Mokokchung.
Attendees were treated to a diverse range of performances, including comedy by Hobi Tsang, musical sets by Asungla Aodang, Lipokmeren, Bendang Meren Ao, and Easter Konyak, and a routine by the Mokokchung Dance Community.
A highlight of the event was the screening of the short film titled ‘Plastic’, directed by Raj Kumar. The jury comprised actors Bendang Meren Ao, S Neangbah Konyak, and Yangerkumla Lemtur.
The winners declared were: Best Film: ‘Plastic’ (Directed by Raj Kumar); Best Director: Anok Pongen (‘Jeevan Ekta Kitap’); Best Actor: Lanusunep Longchar (‘Longrapong Sama’); Best Actress: Tulumenla (‘The Real Identity From Above’).
