An update from the institute stated that head and neck cancer is one of the most common cancers in India. GLOBOCAN estimated head and neck cancers to account for 30% of all cancer in India and was expected to rise.

It informed that the burden of this type of cancer is heavy and resulted from exposure to tobacco, alcohol, other carcinogens and infections. It also mentioned that April is observed as the head and neck cancer awareness month.

Meanwhile, it informed that screening for head and neck cancer would also be offered free of cost on the next two Saturdays of April.
