CIH conducts training on management practices of horticulture nurseries

Dimapur, Aug. 17 (EMN): The Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) DAC and FW, Ministry of Agriculture, Medziphema in collaboration with the department of Agriculture, Medi-Caps University, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, conducted a five-day online training on “Nursery management and production technology of selected horticulture crops” from August 10 to the 14th.

The objective of the training programme was to develop the overall understanding on proper management practices of horticulture nurseries and its role in production of quality planting materials. It also aimed to provide latest production technologies of some horticultural crops and marketing tips to help growers, informed an update.

During the inaugural programme, Dr. N K Patle, deputy commissioner of Horticulture, DAC and FW-cum-director CIH, emphasised on the importance of nursery management for production of quality planting materials and also highlighted the activities of CIH with special reference to accreditation of nursery by the institute.

In his concluding remark, Dr. S D Upadhyaya, dean of Agriculture, Medi-Caps University appreciated the initiative taken up by CIH for the collaborative programme organised for nurserymen, entrepreneurs and students alike and thus creating a platform where participants and experts can interact, learn and develop their knowledge and skills.

Dr. S K Chaurey, HoD of Agriculture, Medi-Caps University also spoke during the programme.

The training session included oral presentation by speakers from different fields of horticulture, questionnaires and interaction sessions, and presentation.

A K Singh, horticulture specialist from CIH delivered a lecture on introduction, classification, layout and physical resources of nursery; Arvind Singh, technical consultant CIH provided information on establishment of infrastructures for nursery and flower nursery; Meribeni Shitiri, horticulture specialist presented on introduction to vegetable nursery, technical information for planning and management of vegetable nurseries; and Prabin Das, marketing specialist spoke on marketing and entrepreneurship.

Invited resource persons from the division of fruit and horticultural technology, Indian Agriculture Research Institute, Pusa, New Delhi namely Prof. RM Sharma, principle scientist, Dr. Amit Goswami, scientist and Dr. S K Singh, Sr. principal scientist, enlightened the participants on nursery management and production technologies of citrus fruits, guava and mango. Dr. Venkatesh Hubbali, director of Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development, Kochi, also presented a lecture on production technologies and nursery management of cashew.

Faculty members and students from Medi-Caps University and nurserymen, entrepreneurs and horticulture officers from all north-eastern states participated in the programme.
