KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 9: Sensing on the need for more logistic participation of the people towards social services, Commissioner and Secretary, Y Kikheto Sema said the church and the community should invest in social services.
He said this at the building dedication programme of Mount Olive College Kohima (MOCK), which was dedicated by Dr. Hokheto Chophi, Pastor of Sumi Baptist Church, Kohima (SBCK). The newly constructed building was named ‘Gnosophia’ – ‘House of knowledge and wisdom.’
Expressing concern on the dilapidated structures of the schools, especially the government schools in the State, Sema, who is also the chairman of Board of Deacons, SBCK, asserted on the need for the church and community to come forward and start owning responsibility towards managing and investing in the social sectors.Also giving a brief history on the establishment of the College, Sema said through the pioneering and untiring efforts of the members of Sumi Baptist Church, Kohima (SBCK), the college was set up in the year 1992 with a vision to offer collegiate education to the aspiring youth of the State.
Stating that the college is a non-profit institution, Sema said it aspires to fulfill its motto ‘Onward and uUpward’ in letter and in spirit through sincerity and dedication in the service of the people.
Also reminding that the best building is the ‘be all’ factor towards achieving one’s goal, he advised the students to value their time in the college for a successful future.
Stating that ‘abundancet of common sense is wisdom,’ the students were told to ask God to grant them the sixth sense – ‘Common sense’ so they will be able to do the common things in an uncommon ways.
Giving a brief report on the construction of the building, Shiwoto Wotsa, convenor of building construction committee, said the new building was constructed costing 4 crores 37 lakh, with 2 crores grant from UGC and the rest managed by the church.
Earlier, Dr. Hoketo Chophi, unveiled the plaque and offered a dedicatory prayer for the new building.
Mount Olive College Kohima located at Daklane is completely sponsored and financed by Sumi Baptist Church, Kohima. It became permanently affiliated unit of Nagaland University in 2005 and is under the process to be assessed by NAAC.
