Imphal, Nov. 2 (EMN): 20-year-old Teresa N Varte was crowned Miss Kut 2022 during a day-long beauty pageant held at Peace ground Tuibuong, 65 km south of Imphal in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Nov. 1.
18 beautiful girls belonging to different communities participated at the Miss Kut 2022 beauty contest as part of the state level Kut festival, the annual premiere and post-harvest festival of the Kuki-Chin-Mizo tribes in Manipur.
Teresa N Varte, a BA first year student from Rayburn College Teresa who is a resident of Churachandpur’s Renkai locality went home richer with a cheque of INR 1 lakh and gift hampers by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Yumnam Khemchand.
The MLAs Th Arunkumar and Kimneo Haokip Hangshing presented the prizes along with gift hampers to Vahichong Haokip and Rost Niangbakmawi who were crowned first and second runners-up respectively. They were also awarded cheques of INR 75,000 and INR 50,000 respectively.
Besides, the first three title holders who are all residents of Churachandpur town, six other competitors who bagged different sub-titles were given cash prizes of INR 20,000 each. Nengdeikim was awarded Miss Beautiful Skin, Hillary Chanu won Miss Photogenic award, Sisi Lhingdeichongkim won Beautiful Hair award, SoibamSushima Devi won Beautiful Smile award, Angelica Borah won Miss Congeniality award and Gloria Sanate as Best Designer.
Miss Kut contest has become the main event of the Kut festival in Manipur whether it is a state level or district level celebration wherein the contestants compete in traditional, casual and formal rounds with questions and answer rounds. The contestants were scrutinised by a panel of judges working in diverse fields.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with his council of ministers Nemcha Kipgen (Commerce and Industry), L Susindro Meitei (Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution), H Dingo Singh(Social Welfare), Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, MLAs, officials and leaders of civil society organisations were present during this year’s Kut festival which was marked by a series of cultural dances and musical sessions.
