Churachandpur district declared containment zone

In order to curb infections by Covid-19, district authority in Manipur has declared “the whole revenue jurisdiction of Churachandpur district as a containment zone with immediate effect” for a period of seven days.

The district magistrate, Pawan Yadav, who is also the chairman of the district disaster management authority, has issued an order in this regard on Thursday.

As per the order, all activities and movement of persons would remain suspended during the period in the containment area except the permitted activities.

The permitted activities included movement of goods vehicles carrying oxygen/ oxygen cylinders, LPG, oil tankers and vehicles of other essential services like power supply, garbage collections, water supply and PDS etc.

All healthcare facilities including animal healthcare, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and movement of healthcare workers, all pharmacies including those selling veterinary medicines, all persons going for Covid vaccination (45+ above) and frontline workers, Covid testing and medical emergencies subject to production of valid documents are also permitted.

Other permitted activities also included all vegetable, fish/meat vendors, shops dealing with essential commodities/ items required for daily used/consumption only (except Nute Bazaar, Zenhang Bazaar, Nute Kailhang Tuibong, Damkam Bazaar and New Bazaar), milk booths from 6 am to 12 noon with strict social distancing and all Covid appropriate behaviours. However, shops dealing with durable consumer’s goods are to remain completely closed.

Besides, petrol pumps would remain open as usual while ensuring there is no crowding. At the same time all establishment and personnel relating to print and electronic media, telecom service providers and approved project works requiring completion by specified deadline are also permitted. Though restaurants are not permitted to open, hotel for lodging would be allowed to remain open with minimum staff. Food and grocery delivery service providers are also permitted.

“There shall be complete ban on movements of all vehicles except those that are exempted above,” the order said and further requested the superintendent of police to put up adequate number of check post at strategic locations to ensure compliance.

Since April 2, the Covid-19 positive cases have been on the rise in Churachandpur district taking the total cases to 291 including 44 in the last 24 hours, according to reports. Presently there are 216 active cases.

Earlier on April 29, the state authority had declared the whole of Greater Imphal as a containment zone with immediate effect for a period of seven days.
