Dimapur, Feb. 3 (EMN): An event called the ‘Chümoukedima Town Cultural Nite 2019,’ was held on Saturday at Chumukedima in Dimapur with the theme of promoting art and culture, according to organisers. The event was organised by a group called Altrura Society in collaboration with the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) of Dimapur, Chümoukedima Town Council; and the Naga Tribal Union of Chumukedima town, a press release from the organisers on Sunday stated.
In his introductory address during the event, the press release stated, Phyobemo Lotha of the Nehru Yuva Kendra was said to have spoken about `the view to encourage and cultivate rich cultural values among the youths in India.’ He encouraged the youths to preserve and ‘promote our rich cultures with the rest of the country,’ the organisers said.
Thejavizo Nakhro, extra additional commissioner, and the administrator of Chumukedima Town Council said the welcome address, the updates stated. He lauded Altrura Society and its partners for organizing the event. He was said to have encouraged young artists to “popularize traditions and take part in the art and cultural activities.”
Likewise, Razouvotuo Chatsu, chairman of the village gave a brief history on the topic of what the press release called “A journey of Chümoukedima town towards multiculturalism.” He was said to spoken about the importance of promotion of art and culture. This was done so “in order to facilitate understanding and appreciate their art and cultural aspects and explore the fraternal links with one another in preserving and promoting the same.”
Opportunities and platforms to the rural youths to demonstrate their skills should be provided, he was said to have told the gathering.
Community cultural troupes representing the Angami, Ao, Chakhesang, Kachari, Kuki, Lotha, Phom, Rengma, Sangtam, Sumi and Yimchunger tribes performed during the cultural session, the press release stated.
More than 250 delegates from in and around Chumukedima villages, besides guests and elders from different tribes attended the program, the updates stated.
