DIMAPUR — Chümoukedima district defeated Niuland district by 6 wickets to be crowned champions of the 3rd edition of Late G Rio Memorial U-19 (boys) Inter-district tournament, played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima.

Having won the toss, Niuland opted to bat first and everything seemed to be going by the plan with both their opening batsmen Lal Kishan (12 runs) and Vishal Sahani (12 runs) spending a good amount of time at the crease, an update informed.

But the wicket of Vishal Sahani in the 8th over with only 23 runs on the board opened up the flood gates for Niuland as the disciplined Chumoukedima bowlers kept getting wickets at intervals and didn't give the rival the batsmen any chance to go for big scores.

Neizekho Rupreo and Aloto Sumi claimed three wickets each, while Khrievitso Kense scalped two wickets and Kezengulie Sogotsu took one wicket for Chümoukedima. For Niuland, Md Shahin topped the score sheet with 14 runs in 27 deliveries and the team scored a total 85 runs.

Requiring just 85 runs to win, Chümoukedima openers Yugandhar Singh and Mughavi Sumi had the luxury of balls advantage to start slow and get well settled. Both the batsman faced 24 balls each before getting out of the pitched having scored 14 and 11 runs respectively.

Jatin made a solo effort for Niuland by clean bowling out 4 crucial wickets with 3 maidens in 10 overs. However, his efforts were in vain as Niuland team gave away 23 extras with only 84 runs on the board.

Aloto Sumi with 22 runs (not out) and Neizekho Rupreo 12 runs (not out) sealed the fate of the game as Chümoukedima won by a comfortable six wickets.
