Chuchuyimlang celebrates ‘Noble Deeds Day’
DIMAPUR — Commemorating 91st birth anniversary of Late Padmashree Natwar Thakkar, Chuchuyimlang village in Mokokchung celebrated the 5th ‘Noble Deeds Day’ on October 9.
An update from Chuchuyimlang Kaketshir Telongjem (CKT) stated that the village had declared the day as ‘Noble Deeds Day’ in 2019 to honour Natwar Thakkar’s over 63 years of selfless service, ever since he moved to Nagaland as a young man in early 1955. It added that every year the day is marked with every citizen of the village performing some kind of charitable, voluntary or positive affirmative action to make a fellow being or the community better off.
It stated that the day is observed as a way of repaying Thakkar’s selfless work of a lifetime aimed at uplifting the socio-economic condition of the less privileged section of the society.
Apart from the various noble deeds performed by individuals and organisation, CKT organised a public function at Anü Mai Amphitheater with the participation of entire village community and invitees from neighbouring villages. The event was also virtually attended by people from different parts of the country.
The function was marked by speeches on the life and works of Padmashree Natwar Thakkar by prominent personalities including Guru Chubatozung, senior member Chuchuyimlang village council; Marsanen, president of Langpangkong Tzukong Mungdang; Rev. T Lima, pastor of Chuchuyimlang Baptist Church; Dr. Aotoshi, managing trustee of the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram; and R Lanuyanger, advisor of Chuchuyimlang Students’ Union.
Other highlights of the function included Scripture reading and special prayers, costume competition on the theme “Best portrayal of Padmashree Natwar Thakkar and his wife Padmashree Lentina Thakkar,” and presentation of a song composed by Merinjung, associate youth pastor of Chuchu town.
