Dimapur, Jan. 9 (EMN): Sergeant Chubamayang of Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, won the best shooter title in the senior division category of 0.22 rifle shooting competition held in Mokokchung.
He scored an astonishing 2cm grouping and the runner-up lance corporal Gaijenbung of St. Xavier College, Jalukie, scored a 3cm grouping, an update stated.
The event was part of the NCC Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) conducted by 25 Naga Bn NCC and weapon training module.
NCC cadets from 11 districts of Nagaland underwent training on firing, handling, and maintenance of small arms, especially the 0.22 calibre sporting rifles. Musketry training, squad post training and dry practices were held before the cadets were exposed to firing live ammunition.
Principles of good shooting including natural alignment, holding, aiming and trigger operation, were the cardinal principles of training the young shooters.
The shooting event was held over a period of two days in the CRPF small arms range, Mokokchung, under the aegis of 25 Naga Bn. NCC, Mokokchung. The camp commandant and commanding officer of 25 Naga Bn. NCC, Col. CST Swamy, said shooting is the most important part of NCC training and the best shooters will be provided an opportunity to represent the state in National Level NCC Shooting competitions. He also said that Nagas being “natural hunters”, the inborn shooting skills can be effectively honed by NCC training and the cadets have very high potential to excel in national and international level shooting competitions.
