The deputy commissioner of Kohima, Thejawelie Gregory Sote was the speaker of the event. In his maiden address to the public at the function, DC Sote said to have been ‘emboldened’ by the support of the people to his assignment. Speaking about the importance of the event, he called it a day to forgive one another and to live in peace. As Christians, he said, one ought to exhibit and live up to the Christian principles. Sote noted the many projects going on in Kohima such as the Smart City projects; an ongoing four-lane road between Kohima and Dimapur; a two-lane road in Kohima, and a plastic-free state initiative by the Nagaland government. He requested the people particularly landowners to cooperate to help achieve the goals of the development works. Even if the government sets new rules or introduce new projects, it all comes down to citizens’ cooperation, he said. The success and failure of any rules or projects greatly depend upon the citizen, the officer said. To the youths, Sote asserted that the government cannot provide jobs to all the unemployed youth in the state. He urged the youth to take up entrepreneurship and business as professions. He requested the businessman in the ‘khel’ to guide and encourage the youngsters. The chairman of the Pfuchatsumia Khel Council, Kruyie Pienyü also addressed the event saying that the community celebrates the day once in three years. Cautioning the impact of excessive use of mobile phones, he advised the gathering to use technology judiciously. He encouraged the people to build a ‘face-to-face connection’ instead of using virtual facilities. Also, he hoped the people will put God first in their lives as every good things come from the Almighty. The president of the PMK, Vilazonuo Rutsa spoke briefly during the event. In her speech, Rutsa urged the parents to set a good example for the children. She also felt the need for more women in the decision making process. She asked the men to not forget to include women in common undertakings. Further, she advised the youths not to drink alcohol, which is a habit that ruins the family and society. During the event, some of the toppers from the area were given recognition for their work in various professions. New executive members to lead the P Khel Council were also declared. Kruyie Pienyü was re-elected the chairman of the P Khel Council for the 2019-2022 tenure.
