Christian metal legends Whitecross to play in Dimapur
American Christian metal legends Whitecross are ‘home’—not their home in Illinois where they grew up, but in Nagaland where Christian rock music was the genre for young Naga fans.
Often counted among the top metal bands in the ‘80s, the Scott Wenzel-led rockers will be playing live in Dimapur on April 12 at the Agri Expo, 4th mile, at 5 pm. The band reached their zenith in the early ‘90s when they three Dove Awards notability with the albums Triumphant Return (1990) and In the Kingdom (1992).
This will be the band’s first performance in India for a tour that has been dubbed “In the Kingdom tour.” Whitecross is singer Scott Wenzel, guitarist Rex Carroll, drummer Michael Feighan, and bassist Benny Ramos.
The Whitecross concert is managed by Dimapur-based Sky Entertainment and powered by the Nagaland Bamboo Timber Unit. The managing team addressed a press conference on Mon. March 4 at the Father’s House Church, in Dimapur.
The purpose of the concert was to challenge Christians and encourage them to walk closer with Jesus Christ; to renew the minds of people by listening to good music and to encourage Gospel music in the state, the team stated.
And here is a good news for the musicians or amateur musicians—get a chance to play the opening song for the Whitecross “In the Kingdom Tour” by submitting a cover song of Whitecross “In the Kingdom” contest. The winner gets to perform the opening act for the concert, the organisers stated. The song can be send to the numbers 908940915/7005147849, and the competition is open up to March 15.
Further, a workshop with Whitecross is in place, in association with the government’s Music Task Force. The workshop is on April 11 from 10 am at the Father’s House Church, at 7th mile in Chumukedima. The registration fee is INR 200. There are limited seats of about 200 for the workshop the organisers stated.
Contribute to the cause
Interestingly, the organisers said there were no sponsors for the concert. The team has appealed to fans and well-wishers to voluntarily contribute; even if not financially they can do so through services as the team will be managing the band through the general tickets priced at INR 300 (admission for one), INR 500 (admission for two) and VIP tickets priced at INR 10,000 with benefits. The VIP tickets will be pre-booking.
For Kohima, the tickets will be available at House of candy, Big Bites, Ozone Cafe and Symphony Cafe. In Dimapur: Crescendo, Cafe 09, Institute for Music Education, Hetika Cafe, Bangkok Cafe, Shofar Music School, Purana Bazar School of Music, Live Sound, and Father’s House Church.
The organisers informed that auto rickshaws will be available at the venue. The auto rickshaw union has agreed to render services at ‘normal rates.’
