KOHIMA, OCTOBER 29: Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker, Chotisuh Sazo, today urged to revive culture of our forefathers of respecting elders, hard work and dignity of labour in order to preserve the rich cultural and traditional heritage.
Speaking at the cultural day of the Zhavame Union Kohima on October 29 at NSF Solidarity Park, Kohima, on the theme ‘Our culture, our identity,’ Sazo stressed on the need to strengthen the unity of the Chakhesang community in particular and the Nagas in general.
He called upon the community to remain intact culturally irrespective of how educated or powerful. Sazo urged the crowd to give importance to preserve the rich culture and traditional values and pass it onto the next generation. He also talked about the rich resources of the village and how organic farming was booming in the area.
Cautioning on the ills of social media, he advised not to merely ape the western or Indian culture but to learn to take the good values and incorporate it in their lives. He also stressed on the need to make use of the banking system in order to uplift their economic condition.
Sazo further encouraged the gathering to strive for unity of the village and the community as a whole.
Deo Movi, president of Zhavame Union Kohima, in his keynote said, “Without culture we are nowhere.” He urged one and all to strive in keeping one’s own culture alive.
Theja Therie, president of Chakhesang Hoho, Kohima, in his exhortation, asserted that one should protect and defend one’s tradition and culture. He also emphasised on the need to use language positively in one’s day to day life.
Invocation was said by Rev. Fr. Rozu Anthony Dukru. Lusa Dao Chu Do (Demonstration of Lusa weaving style) was presented by the womenfolk, while presentation on ‘Chomi Dadü Lü’ by veterans from the village and Tilu Lü (seasonal song) was presented by Baoluchü and Nganyü.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Mosonyi Domeh and benediction was said by Vikuo Rhi, youth secretary of NBCC.
The programme was followed by cultural dance, climbing of bamboo poles, folk songs and various cultural activities.
