Chümoukedima DPDB recommends upgrading two government schools and Sovima Health and Wellness Centre to improve education and healthcare.

DIMAPUR — The Chümoukedima District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) has recommended the upgrade of Government High School, Dhansiripar, to a higher secondary school and Government Middle School, Seitheke Basa, to a high school, while also proposing the upgrade of the Health and Wellness Centre at Sovima to a Primary Health Centre (PHC).
According to a DIPR report, the recommendations were made during the DPDB meeting held on Monday at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall in Chümoukedima, under the chairmanship of Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs and DPDB Chairman, Zhaleo Rio.
Advisor for Industries & Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu, also attended the meeting.
While deliberating on the proposed school upgrades, Jakhalu highlighted the shortage and uneven distribution of teachers in government schools.
Acknowledging the financial constraints faced by the government, she stressed that children should not suffer due to inadequate educational facilities and urged the concerned department to ensure sufficient teachers in upgraded institutions.
The board also recommended the registration of the Old Boys Association of Sainik School, located at Ward-10, Chümoukedima, following scrutiny and deliberations on the issue of society registration raised by the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO).

On the registration of societies, Zhaleo said the DPDB would consider the concerns raised by the CPO and share its views with the organisation.
While discouraging the proliferation of societies and unions, he emphasised that genuine organisations should not be victimised.
The board further decided to recommend to the state government that the spelling of Chümoukedima be corrected and re-notified in official notifications, with the letter ‘ü’ formally recognised to ensure the correct spelling of the district’s name.
The issue was also raised by the CPO.
The meeting also recommended that the PHED take further action on the proposed construction of a drainage system at Sovima village.
Addressing the meeting, Zhaleo welcomed the newly posted officers to the district and observed that Chümoukedima, being a relatively new district, offered considerable opportunities as well as challenges.
He urged the officers to work collectively for the district’s development and the welfare of the public.
He informed the house that the upgrade of the DC’s conference hall would be taken up by December.
He also stressed the need for proper maintenance of roads in urban and rural areas, improved sanitation and better road connectivity, particularly between Chümoukedima and Kohima, in view of the upcoming Hornbill Festival.
Deputy Commissioner, Chümoukedima, Polan John, while reviewing the minutes of the previous meeting, informed the house that the estimate for widening the road and constructing a drainage system from NH-29 to the Chathe River at 7th Mile Model village had been forwarded to the PWD (Roads & Bridges) for further action.
He also apprised the members of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and the progress of its implementation.
The DC further informed the meeting that the district administration, in collaboration with the Department of Power, would organise a Seva Setu Camp from October 14 to the 16th at the DC’s office complex in Chümoukedima.
Jakhalu also highlighted Chümoukedima’s potential as a sericulture belt and stressed the need to strengthen market linkages for locally produced goods.
She called for greater departmental intervention beyond training, including capacity building and sustained engagement with farmers, to help them market their products and improve their livelihoods.
During the meeting, District Tuberculosis Officer Dr. Mlato Shikhu delivered PowerPoint presentations on the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and the TB Ni-kshay Mitra initiative.
District Sericulture Officer Mayanjala Walling also presented an overview of schemes implemented by the Sericulture department.
