Chizo, Ayemi from Nagaland shine at Muaythai championship, bring laurels to India

KOHIMA — Yoto Chizo (fighter) and Hemavi Ayemi (coach) from Nagaland, who represented India in the East Asian Muaythai Championship 2023 held from November 23 to the 26th in Hong Kong, have brought laurels to the state and the country.

Chizo, the lone fighter from Nagaland selected by the United Muay Thai Association of India to compete at the event, won a bronze medal at the championship, while Ayemi, who led the 15-member Indian team, was awarded the ‘best coach’.

It may be mentioned that both Chizo and Ayemi are from Strike-fit Academy. 

The East Asian Muaythai Championship is the largest and highest level Muaythai event in Hong Kong.

The four-day event featured fighters from countries including Republic of Korea, China, Japan, Mongolia and Bangladesh.

The year’s event was held after a gap of three years at Queen Elizabeth Satdium, Hong Kong.
