Chiranjeevi’s ‘Waltair Veerayya’ beats Balakrishna’s ‘Veera Simha Reddy at box office

Bengaluru, Jan. 14 (EMN): Mega Star Chiranjeevi’s “Waltair Veerayya” raked in an impressive collection at the box office on the opening day, grossing a little more than Balakrishna’s “Veera Simha Reddy”.
On day-1 of screening, “Waltair Veerayya” collected Rs 10.9 crore with distributors’ share of Rs 6.58 crore in the Nizam region alone, while the collection in Andhra Pradesh was Rs 17.5 crore with distributors’ share of Rs 12.26 crore, taking the total collection from the two Telugu-speaking states — Andhra and Telangana – to Rs 34.3 crore (distributors’ share: Rs 23.3 crore).
The film also received overwhelming response from Chiranjeevi fans in Karnataka, collecting Rs 3 crore with distributors’ share of Rs 1.35, from the state but the revenue from the rest of the country was said to be negligible.
In the overseas, “Waltair Veerayya” did well at the US box office, raking in Rs 8.3 crore (distributors’ share of Rs 3.75 crore), taking the worldwide collection of the Mega Star’s movie to Rs 49.6 crore with distributors’ share of Rs 30 crore.
This is a little more than Balakrishna’s “Veera Simha Reddy”, which earned Rs 48 crore on the opening day
“Waltair Veerayya” pre release business
From the sale of theatrical rights of Nizam and AP regions, the makers of “Waltair Veerayya” earned about Rs 74 crore. The rights of Karnataka were sold at Rs 5 crore, while it was Rs 1.5 crore for the rest of the country.
As per the trade reports, the overseas rights of the film was around Rs 8.5 crore, taking its worldwide theatrical rights to Rs 94 crore.
Trade analysts said that “Waltair Veerayya” should earn in the range of Rs 94 crore and Rs 112 crore in order to be considered a hit.
