Kohima, June 23 (EMN): A new park for children has been inaugurated. MLA Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire inaugurated the children’s park at New Reserve in Phesama on Friday.
The park was constructed as part of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
Addressing the gathering during the formal event, Kire said that Kohima had few spaces for recreational activities and that children have had to spend most of their time indoors as they have little opportunity to go out and explore.
The legislator appreciated the new park saying that it would create space for community activities, a place that would be a recreational place not only for the children but for elders and families as well.
Further, he mentioned that there was a provision for another park in Kohima. He hoped that the government will come up with more projects for such places in the future.
Calling upon the public to keep the park and its surrounding areas clean, Kire suggested that the people who use the park should ensure that they do not litter the area. He sees no reason why the people won’t be able to maintain parks.
To create a healthy environment in around the park and to make it a lively destination is everyone’s responsibility, he said.
He has suggested naming the park ‘Pete Park,’ which means ‘Park for Everyone’ in Tenyidie dialect.
