Children Home under scrutiny after theft case

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 24: Following the incident of August 21 where six children from a Dimapur based Children’s home were reportedly apprehended for shoplifting at a colony in Dimapur, the children home located at Grace Colony, Firing range run by a public figure has come under the scrutiny of authorities for negligence. After the emergence of the allegations, Dimapur child rights activists mediated and relocated the children under protective custody. Child rights activists, who visited the home following the incident illustrate its living condition as deprived. As per the activists, the children who are all below 14 years cited that they were provided with only one meal a day with occasional tea. The health condition of the children was also described as malnourished with some having skin conditions who were thereafter given first aid by the activist. The Child rights activists explained that as the case involved minors, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Dimapur, has taken notice of the case and launched an investigation. The CWC further informed that the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and CHILDLINE have been directed to rescue the other children remaining at the children home.
