DIMAPUR — Child Friendly Dimapur, AIDA conducted a workshop for the anganwadi workers with intent to deepen the content of “nurturing care” and discuss possible actions on the current situations towards promoting child rights with special focus on the right of the child.

The workshop was held at ANMA Integrated Development Association, AIDA conference hall in Dimapur on Monday with Dr. Moamenla Singson, Medical Officer, Civil Hospital Dimapur, as resource person.

Singson spoke on the early childhood care development and its benefits i.e., socialisation, developing brain capacity, value education, understanding creative play way method, self esteem and self-confidence, nurturing basic good habits and developing fundamental literacy and numeracy.

She also stressed on the role of anganwadi workers in supporting early child development intervention. She encouraged the workers to be aware of the different age groups, milestones of a child, and domains of early childhood as many important changes take place in the process of growth in a child. She explained the child development in four different stages ie., communication and speech domain, physical, social, emotional and the cognitive domains.

In her concluding note, she explained Article 6 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child–Right to life, survival and development, and encouraged them to be erudite to serve effectively in the frontline in the society towards ensuring the rights of the child.

Earlier, while delivering the welcome address, Rev. Fr. Roy George, Executive Director, AIDA, introduced and thanked the resource person for the support and contribution that she has been rendering towards the organisation for social development in different capabilities. He briefed them on Child Friendly Dimapur, an initiative of AIDA adapted from United Nation, Child Friendly Cities initiative and appreciated them for coalescing to make the envisioned dream a reality.

Shemang S Phom, Civil Society Mobilisation Officer, CFD, enlightened the participants on the interventions of Child Friendly Dimapur and its status.

The programme concluded with a reflection on the challenges faced by the Anganwadi workers in the field and possibilities to work in alliance with community leaders and like-minded organisations to ensure the rights of the children through their interventions in the society. Altogether, 20 Anganwadi workers from different localities of Dimapur attended the workshop.
