Chief Secretary urges for responsible use of social media

School’s auditorium on July 28.[/caption] Our Correspondent Mokokchung, July 28 (EMN): The Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Temjen Toy on Saturday highlighted on the effects of social media in the society and lamented that in Nagaland, there is no more ‘brave-hearts’, but only people who display ‘bravado’ behind the shades of anonymity. He, therefore urged the students’ community to use the social media platform like facebook, whatsapp etc responsibly for the good of the society. The chief secretary, was delivering the keynote address at the first ‘summer Fest’ organized by the Mokokchung District Combined Colleges viz. Fazl Ali College, Peoples’ College, JMC and Tuli college at Mayangnokcha govt Hr Sec. School auditorium. Temjen Toy cautioned that social media platforms, if not used wisely, would lead to dangerous and catastrophic situations. In this regard, he observed that in Nagaland, the social media is misused more than it is actually used for good. “We don’t hesitate twice to criticised or pull down people; we take so much pride to become social media warrior,” asserted the top bureaucrat and therefore, he strongly urged the students and the society to use the social media platform responsibly for the good of the society. He therefore pointed out to the students that the current technologies at their disposal and the future technologies coming to their lives, need to be used in a responsible manner so that “with constructive and positive criticisms, the Naga society can be transformed into a progressive society’. He further asserted that today Nagaland needs good and brave citizen who respect the rule of law for the progress of Nagas as a whole. “We have enough of negativisms in Nagaland, it is time we go forward and encourage each other and stop criticizing another,” Toy challenged the student community. The chief secretary also encouraged the students not to forget their roots and the qualities of their forbearers like honesty, hard work, sincerity and the sense of helping each other. “The world blows in one direction with the combination of good and bad, however, the future depends on you how you set your sail?” Toy said. Earlier, in the technical session, Dinesh Gupta SDPO Mokokchung, the MCCI president Tsukti Longkumer and Asst. Prof. (Dept. of Anthropology NU Lumami) Dr Tiasunep. The summer fest was held on the theme, “Invigorating Conscientious Youths,” which was attended by more than 1000 students from four colleges under Mokokchung District.
