Chief Minister and team meet Central leaders

Dimapur, August 30 (EMN): The Chief Minister, TR Zeliang along with his colleagues accompanied by Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio today met President Ram Nath Kovind and congratulated him on his landslide victory in the recently held Presidential election.
A press note from the CMO stated that the team led by the Chief Minister also met Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and congratulated him for having assumed office.
During the brief interaction with the President and then with the Vice President, the Chief Minister urged upon them to utilise their good offices for an early settlement of the long standing Naga Political problem.
“Chief Minister Nagaland briefed them on the ongoing situation in the State and also mentioned that Peace will enable development that will make Nagaland a vibrant State of the India Union,” it stated.
Zeliang and his team also met Home Minister, Rajnath Singh and submitted a memorandum for restoration and immediate sanction of relief while also apprising him of the damages caused by unprecedented rain and landslides in the State.
The Chief Minister also urged upon the Union Home Minister for an early settlement of the Naga Political problem, “preferably before Christmas this year”.
He mentioned that the settlement of the long standing Naga Political issue will help usher in an era of Peace and Development which will have an impact in the entire Northeastern region.
This would be in sync with the Look East Policy of Government of India and will help build synergies of Indian Economy with those of South East Asian Nations.
He apprised the Union Home Minister with regard to the large scale damage caused by the recent rains which have not only resulted in flooding and landslides but also caused loss of life, property and damage of roads and bridges.
The chief minister also requested the Government of lndia to provide immediate relief as also support for rebuilding the damaged roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
‘Union Home Minister assured of all possible help and mentioned that a team will be sent to assess the damage caused and provide for necessary relief and rehabilitation,” it stated.
The team also met the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and deliberated on the financial situation in the state.
The chief minister apprised the union minister of the challenges the state is facing due to lack of resources and highlighted the issue of non-completion of projects taken up under State Plan Assistance as funds have not been made available under SPA since the formation of Niti Aayog.
On the recent floods and landslides in the state the press note stated that the union finance minister assured that all necessary help and support will be provided through the National Disaster Relief Fund.
