DIMAPUR — The Chiechama village farming community celebrated the silver jubilee of Chiechama Peli Kro Kerepuoko Kepekrokelie at the Amphitheatre, Chiechama village in Kohima, on Wednesday.
The event was attended by Helie Rüpreo, former director of Agriculture, as the special guest, in the presence of 11 farmers groups (Peli) and citizens, according to a DIPR report.
In his speech, Rüpreo lauded the Chiechama farmers association for bringing alive the traditional farming culture in the village. Encouraging the farmers to carry on the traditional way of agricultural practices by helping each other, he stated that for generations traditional cultivation has formed a vital part of their cultural identity.
He lamented that the younger generations, after migrating to urban areas in search of a comfortable lifestyle, education, and employment opportunities, are wasting their time mostly on mobile phones and moving away from age-old traditional practices.
