Check flow of liquor in Dimapur — Zhaleo Rio
Dimapur, Feb. 24 (EMN): Terming the recent ultimatum from Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) a ‘wakeup call for the department’, the advisor to Excise, Sericulture and Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio has directed ‘immediate action to curb the flow of liquor’ in the commercial hub.
On February 21, the DNSU had served a 7-day ultimatum to the commissioner of Excise, Dimapur “to close down all the liquor shops, outlets and thoroughly check the flow of liquor in Dimapur”.
A press release from the department informed that an emergency meeting was held on Monday at the Excise Directorate, which had in attendance the advisor, the department’s secretary and senior officers.
The advisor welcomed ‘all the constructive criticisms’, it added.
He also noted the difficulties faced by the department when executing the NLTP Act, according to the press release. The advisor stressed on the need for active participation from all stakeholders, maintaining that “it should be a people’s movement”.
“In the face of security threats from elemental forces, he observed that the department should be modernised and equipped with adequate logistics and arms.
The department decided to form a dedicated committee headed by the deputy commissioner (NC) as convenor to look into the present issue,” it informed.
