Dimapur, August 3 (EMN): Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Thursday convened a meeting to discuss what the chief minister’s office claimed was “on renovation of roads and bridges”, in the backdrop of the disastrous calamities that have claimed lives, especially in Dimapur. Dimapur, August 3 (EMN): Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Thursday convened a meeting to discuss what the chief minister’s office claimed was “on renovation of roads and bridges”, in the backdrop of the disastrous calamities that have claimed lives, especially in Dimapur. A late night press release from the chief minister’s office on Thursday informed that the meeting was held at the CM’s official chamber, Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima. It claimed that the chief minister had directed ‘National Highways, BRO, Roads and Bridges, allied departments and contractors to commence road renovation around Dimapur and Kohima with immediate effect’.It also informed that the chief minister had on August 1 last met Narenda Modi, prime minister of India, at Guwahati during which he highlighted ‘the unprecedented natural calamity while requesting the PM to grant special package for repair of roads and bridges’.Following decisions were taken during the meeting, according to the press release:

i. Road from Purana Bazaar to 3rd mile: Temporary repair work for this stretch of road would be taken up with the machinery to be provided by M/S ECI as contribution under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

ii. Road from Green Park to Thahekhu: Temporary repair work for this stretch of road will be taken up with the machinery to be provided by M/S Gayatri and Maytas as contribution under CSR.

 iii. Road from Golaghat junction to Tragopan junction and upto DC Court, Dimapur: Temporary repair work of this stretch of road will be taken up by CE, PWD (R&B).

iv. Road from Railway Station flyover to Supermarket:  Temporary repair work of this stretch of road will be taken up by CE, PWD (R&B).

v. Road from Full Nagarjan to 3rd mile:  Temporary repair work of this stretch of road will be taken up by CE, PWD (R&B).

vi. Road from Tragopan junction upto Burma Camp traffic point:  Temporary repair work of this stretch of road will be taken up by CE, PWD (NH).

vii. Clearance of drainage from Purana Bazaar:  This work shall be executed by the Commandant BRO from 5th to 7th August, 2017.

To enable the ‘execution’ of what the chief minister’s office described as “emergency repair works at Dimapur”, it stated that the nodal authority for said works “CE, PWD (R&B)” has been given a six-days period , from August 6-9. “He shall deploy necessary manpower under a Superintendent Engineer for execution and supervision of the repair works.  For National Highway, CE, PWD (NH) shall deploy the manpower”.Immediate construction of bridges in Dimapur“Construction of two suspension bridges at 4th Mile and Nagarjan: These will be taken up by the NSDMA in coordination with the DDMA, Dimapur. The design of the suspension bridge developed by the PWD (R&B) shall be given to the NSDMA. The material for the suspension bridge shall be procured by the NSDMA either from Guwahati or Kolkata. “The work will be implemented departmentally in collaboration with the DDMA, Dimapur. For immediate passage of light vehicles, a temporary bamboo bridge shall be constructed by the NSDMA at 4th Mile across the Chathe river”, the CMO statement informed.It informed that a request has been made to the Army for construction on an emergency bridge at 4th Mile, over Chathe river. According to the statement, construction of new bridges at 4th Mile as well as Nagarjan would be completed by June 2018.     Temporary immediate repair of roads in Kohima“CE, PWD (R&B) shall repair the road in Kohima stretching from the Secretariat road to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and in other parts of Kohima Town which has been badly damaged by the monsoon 2017.  CE, PWD (R&B) shall submit estimates for the works by 5th August and these work shall be completed by the 13th August, 2017.“Since the works are emergent in nature, they shall be taken up departmentally, the cost of which will be borne under ‘Disaster Management immediate restorative work damaged by extreme rainfall’. The estimate will be submitted to NSDMA, Home department by the chief engineer PWD (R&B)”, it read.
