Mokokchung, Sep. 20 (EMN): After two consecutive defeats in the finals, Changtongya Volleyball Association 'A' finally beat its arch-rival Sakutemjem Memorial Club, Chungtiayimsen to lift the 14th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy, at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Mokokchung on Friday, September 20.
Changtongya Volleyball Association met Sakutemjem Memorial Club, Chungtiayimsen in the finals in 2017 and 2018 but they could not conquer Sakutemjem Memorial Club to claim the championship title.
However,in this year's edition, Changtongya Volleyball Association came with a renewed fire to snatch away the title from its arch-rival Sakutemjem Memorial Club in straight sets 25-22; 25-16; 26-24.
Moatemjen of Sakutemjen Memorial Club, Chungtiayimsen won the Player of the tournament while Bendangtemsu of Changtongya Volleyball Association A won the Best Spiker and Sarilepzüng also of Changtongya Volleyball Association A won the Best Setter award.
Sukumoshi Club, Dimapur and PathFinders, DEF Mokokchung were the third and fourth place winner respectively.
The closing function of the tournament was attended by Er. Limadongdang Jamir, Engineer-in-Chief, NPWD, as the chief patron. In his short speech, Jamir congratulated the MDVA for their effort in successfully organising the trophy.
He said that the trophy was a platform for young players to compete with other teams and to bring out the best while ironing out their flaws. He also mentioned about Late Imchaba, who was among the first volleyball player and who encouraged the game in the late 1920’s. Er. Limadongdang acknowledged the family of Late Imchaba and the members of the Lt Imchaba Trust Fund.
He urged the players to have dedication and commitment and to reach the highest level of success with their talent and potentials.
