DIMAPUR — The Chang Wedoshi Setshang (Chang Students’ Conference) has decided to shut down all the government offices in Tuensang district from October 18 till its ‘charter of demands’ regarding Sao Chang College (SCC) are fulfilled.

In a notification issued to the deputy commissioner of Tuensang on Tuesday, the CWS stated that the commissioner and secretary, Higher and Technical Education, had invited it to a video conference on October 16. While thorough deliberation on the charter of demands laid by the CWS was held, “the department has failed to give any assurance or fulfill the demands”.

As a result, the conference has decided to initiate the 2nd phase of agitation by shutting down all the government department offices within the district, it said.

The CWS further informed that all the schools and higher secondary schools, the Tuensang district administration, police department, medical department and the fire and emergency department would be exempted from the shutdown.

It may be noted here that the CWS had launched its 1st phase of agitation on October 12 following the failure of the concerned department in addressing the issues it had brought up through a memorandum on September 9, which included deployment of Principal to SCC, addressing staffing shortage (teaching and non-teaching), immediate allocation of adequate college bus, and upgrade of science laboratory.
