Mokokchung, Jan. 13 (EMN):
Minister of PWD (Housing & Mechanical), Tongpang Ozukum, on Thursday called upon the Chang community to be ambassadors of peace and bridge the differences prevailing among the tribes to live in peaceful co-existence.

Addressing the Poanglum festival organised by Mokokchung Chang Union here in Mokokchung town, the minister described Chang community as one of the major and important tribes among the Nagas. He also termed Chang community as an important pillar in the Naga society stating that without them it would create a huge vacuum in the Naga society. In this regard, he urged the Chang community to have confidence and be a pathfinder for the other tribes.

Lauding the Mokokchung Chang Union for successfully organising the biggest festival of the Chang, Ozukum encouraged the Chang youth not to forget their rich culture and tradition which signifies their identity adding, “if you lose ethos, you will have no identity.”

To the students, he appealed to become educated persons saying that there is no place for the mediocre in this competitive society.

“Become master of what you do; don’t try to be the jack of all trades,” he urged the students.

Ozukum further lauded the Chang tribes for recognising the Chang villages under Mokokchung district for providing backward tribe certificates.

In this connection, Ozukum asserted that as citizens of Mokokchung they (Chang) would receive the same treatment as the rest of the citizens in the district. He also reminded the Chang tribe residing in Tuensang not to forsake their brethren living in Mokokchung district.

On the occasion, a folk song was presented by Changsao Thangjam  Setshang Mokokchung, while a welcome address was delivered by MCU president. Short speeches were delivered by CKS president, general secretary of Ao Senden, president of ENPUM, ENPO CEC members and others.
