Dimapur, Feb. 25 (EMN): The Chakhro Angami Kuda Union (Caku) celebrated Sekrenyi Festival- ‘festival of purification and sanctification of body and soul’, at Northern Angami Colony ground in Dimapur on Thursday.
Zhaleo Rio, advisor of Excise and Sericulture and Minority Affairs and special guest of the event, extended his greetings to the people and stressed on the importance of one’s own culture and tradition.
He expressed that there is a lack of unity and non-involvement in gatherings within the urban city of Dimapur even though the population is big. He however stated that the gathering has laid a ‘good foundation’ for the days to come.
He further stressed on the value of cultural identity and values as well as preservation of one’s mother tongues and traditional attires, which were passed down from generations.
Citing the economic growth in the state, Rio stated that the Covid-19 pandemic period has been a blessing in disguise as the people are now involved more in agricultural activities. He reminded the people to follow the guidelines issued by the government to fight against Covid-19.
During the event, Kevilhulie Senotsu shared on the significance of the festival, while the Caku president Zhato Kimho delivered the welcome address, cultural song was presented by Kuda Village A Khel, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Vimechiezo Miachie-o.
