Chakhesang Cultural Organisation extends Sökrönye greetings
DIMAPUR — The Chakhesang Cultural Organisation (CSO) has extended greetings to the Chakhesangs and the Nagas at large on the occasion of Sökrönye, the premier festival for Chakhesangs and the Tonimai/Tinemi (Tünyemi) community, which is scheduled for January 15.
According to a press release from the CSO, the Chokris had traditionally practiced Sökrö, a ritualistic purification of young innocent boys and girls through the killing and eating of unblemished cock and hen.
“This act of sanctification or purification is quite similar to baptism,” it said, adding that culture is the easiest emotional binding factor in a given society.
It also urged everyone to purify their hearts and to pray for prosperity, good fortune, and happiness in every home in order to give peace a chance.
