Dimapur, Jan. 13 (EMN): In an effort to enable every citizen exercise their voting rights, Chakhesang Clean Election Movement (CCEM) has resolved to take up action against buying and selling of votes in the upcoming election within its jurisdiction.
The resolution to this effect was taken during its meeting held at the Chakhesang Baptist Church Ministers’ Hill, Kohima, on January 12.
“Buying and selling of votes during election is the major root cause of corruption among many factors. Therefore, the CCEM at, its level, will try every effort to control such malpractices within its jurisdiction, stated an update from CCEM.
It appealed to all the voters, intending candidates, and party workers to abstain from engaging unethical voting during the election. Besides that, it also urged the public to abstain from organising party camps.
While noting that the church is not an enforcing agency to control, penalise or fine any party or individual, CCEM felt that churches are divine institutions ordained by the Almighty God with the responsibility to keep its members intact on moral behavior. CCEM also urged the church leaders to continue speaking on clean election in the church platforms and even more so with the state assembly election around the corner.
It has decided to continue with the setting up of check gates spearheaded by the Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA) in order to curb the inflow of alcohol and other substances within its jurisdiction.
Other topics discussed during the meeting included area wise-update, banners and posters, awareness programme in villages etc.
The CCEM members have also decided to meet the district administration in Phek town on January 23 for better coordination and to work together towards clean election.
