CFSB chairman brokers peace

NK SinghCHAIRMAN of the Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) Lt. Gen. (Rtd) NK Singh has appealed to all NSCN groups to stop inter-factional killings in the interest of peace and harmony. He added that the frequent clashes have disturbed peace in the area and often leads to creating panic among the people.The appeal of the CFSB chairman to abjure violence came in the wake of recent spurt of factional killings particularly between two rival NSCN (K) and GPRN/ NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) factions in a meeting of Ceasefire Supervisory Board with officials of GPRN/ NSCN today in Rhododendron conference hall, NAPTC, Chumukedima.
Addressing the media after a closed door meeting, Lt. Gen. (Rtd) NK Singh expressed his dismay to killings of rival cadres to facilitate their own extortion activities.
He said the GPRN/ NSCN delegation have been asked to stop inter-factional clashes and extortion and to confine themselves within their designated camps.
The CFSB chairman said the killings are against all tenets of humanitarian laws and human behaviour and offered his condolences to the bereaved families.
Stating that extortion can never be justified under any circumstances, the Rtd Lt.Gen mooted the examination of the recent proposal by the State chief minister to explore an alternative for the cadres. He the model should ensure adequate safeguards and arrangements to ensure there is no further extortion and violence .
He said the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere where all members had exchange views in free and fair manner.
It may be mentioned here that today’s meeting of Lt. Gen. NK Singh with the GPRN/ NSCN was the first ever after assuming the chairmanship of the Ceasefire Supervisory Board.
The GPRN/ NSCN Kilonser, C Singson, also reiterated the concern of the outfit over the killongs. He said they were determined that ceasefire ground rules should be maintained in letter and spirit.
However the GPRN/ NSCN have also requested a review of the ceasefire ground rule particularly in pertaining to arrest and raiding of houses belonging to NSCN. GPRN/ NSCN has also reportedly requested for release of seized weapons and also to set up one more camp preferably in the Lotha and Ao area.
Equally expressing concern over recent killings, State government officials have suggested armed cadres not to move around in public area. It was further leaned that State government officials have expressed reservation against setting up of new designated camps irrespective of any political groups.
Government officials who attended the meeting included the Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner Banuo Z Jamir, IGAR (N) Maj. Gen. MM Naravane, DIG CRPF Amit Taneja, DIGP (Training & Border) Bendang Lemtur, Staff Officer and Retired DIG GK Rengma, and Retired DSP I Shokum Yim.
GPRN/ NSCN was represented by CFSB convenor C Singson, Jack, Bohoto, WC Konyak, Thungkomo Jungio and Carlos K Zhimomi.
