Dimapur, June 29 (EMN): Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), V Shashank Shekhar, has emphasised on the important role of district electoral machinery headed by the deputy commissioners and district election officers in the overall conduct and management of the entire electoral process.

Shekhar stated this during the inaugural function of a two-day training programme of the deputy commissioners (DC) and district election officers (DEO) held at the commissioner’s conference hall in Kohima on June 29. The training is being conducted in accordance with directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), an update from the Election department stated.

Shekhar expressed hope that all the concerned would benefit from the training. He further expressed hope that the resource persons would enjoy their visit to Nagaland.

The two-day training programme is being conducted by resource persons from the Election Commission of India (ECI) and India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM). The training is being conducted in order to equip the district election officers with knowledge and skill for the forthcoming general election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

The resource persons would take up sessions on district election management plan (DEMP)/ booth-level election management plan (BEMP), vulnerability mapping, systematic voter education and electoral participation (SVEEP), model code of conduct (MCC), IT applications, media certification and monitoring committee (MCMC) and paid news, law and order, expenditure monitoring and accounts on election expenditure during the two-day training programme.

The programme was chaired by Ruokuovituo Khezhie, additional chief electoral officer, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Awa Lorin, joint chief electoral officer and Alila Chang, deputy election officer, was the programme officer.
