Centre of Excellence for Music & the Performing Arts , in Kohima

MUSIC Task Force (MTF) Nagaland is all set to woo music aficionados in the state by presenting scores of renowned musicians and bands on different stages during the forthcoming ten-day long Hornbill International Music Festival 2013 starting from December 1.And in what could be termed as the icing on the cake, the state will also be getting a permanent place for music during this ten-day music fiesta in the form of the much anticipated Nagaland’s own Centre of Excellence for Music and Performing Art.
Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio will inaugurate the Centre of Excellence for Music and Performing Art (CEMPA) at Jotsoma, Kohima on December 2.
This was announced by MLA and advisor MTF, Khriehu Liezietsu during a press conference held at Unitex, Kohima on Thursday.
MTF coordinator, Theja Meru, who was also present, highlighted the schedule of the Hornbill International Musical Festival 2013 to be held at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima. He said that on December 1 commemorating Nagaland statehood day, achieving musicians of Nagaland will perform featuring a special band from Korea, while on December 2 Identity EMC will be presenting ‘A Tribute to 50 years of Statehood for Nagaland’ featuring Methaneilie Jütakhrie Solo and Zowe Madrigal as well as Mixed Generation (Delhi). Semper Souls from USA will take the stage on December 3, and on December 4 there will be a Country and Blues concert, featuring veteran musicians including Soul Mate (Meghalaya).
Celebrated Indian rockers Parikrama will be performing on December 5 and the following four days
December 6-9, the Hornbill International Rock Contest 2013 will proceed, wherein, the contending bands will be battling out to get to the top nine. On December 9, musicians from the UK are scheduled to perform. The grand finale of the contest will be held on December 10. Meanwhile, in collaboration with MTF, Little Fire will present a musical- ‘We Will Rock You’ at CEMPA featuring the 45 high flying musicians in the state on December 1 which will be an ‘invitation only’ show. This was announced by Little Fire director and producer, Ate Kevichusa. She said on December 2 and 3 the musical will be a ticketed show.
Also, Unlock Productions will be organizing the Ultimate Hornbill Choir on December 6 at CEMPA.
