- DIMAPUR — The
Centre has announced the extension of the ceasefire agreement with the
Khango-led NSCN (K) group and the Kitovi-led NSCN (NK).
- “Government of India and National Socialist Council of
Nagaland/K-Khango (NSCN/K-Khango), Nagaland, have mutually decided to extend
the ceasefire agreement with effect from 18th April, 2025, for a period of one
year, i.e., till 17th April, 2026, to bring about a lasting peace in the state
of Nagaland with the involvement of Naga people,” stated a notification issued
by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday.
- The ceasefire will be subject to adherence to the ground
rules mutually agreed upon and signed by the two sides. “The ceasefire ground
rules will be subject to mutual review and amendment with the involvement of
both the parties,” it added.
- The agreement with the group led by N Kitovi Zhimomi was
similarly worded. “Government of India and National Socialist Council of
Nagaland/NK (NSCN/K-Khango), Nagaland, have mutually decided to extend the
ceasefire agreement with effect from 18th April, 2025, for a period of one
year, i.e., till 17th April, 2026, to bring about a lasting peace in the state
of Nagaland with the involvement of Naga people,” it stated.
- Vital chance
- Meanwhile, Kitovi issued a statement asserting that
extension of the ceasefire agreement with the Centre should not be perceived
merely as a victory over Gen. (Rtd) Neokpao Konyak and Ato Kilonser Alezo
Venuh.
- “Rather, it represents a vital chance to cultivate a
peaceful and honorable political solution to the enduring Indo-Naga conflict.
This development is not just an opportunity; it is a crucial step forward that
can pave the way for reconciliation and create a brighter future for all involved,”
it read.
