DIMAPUR — The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, has committed to assisting the state government in setting up a school of drone technology through its programme.

The ministry made this commitment during the inaugural programme of a three-day ‘Manthan,’ a Northeast region skill and entrepreneurship conclave held at Mahapurush Sankardev auditorium in Guwahati, Assam, on September 1. The conclave was a follow-up to the special skill initiatives for the Northeastern states under the banner “Transforming lives, building future-skilled development and entrepreneurship in Northeast.”

The conclave was inaugurated by the Minister of State of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, along with Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, MoS of Education and External Affairs.

The commitment to set up the school was prompted by the advisor of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Labour and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer, after he mentioned the challenges in accessibility and connectivity to villages remote places due to hilly terrain. Longkumer urged the centre to set up a school of drone technology as he felt that those challenges could be overcome through the application of drone technologies, stated a press release issued by the press secretary to the advisor.

While highlighting the different activities of the department, Longkumer mentioned about unemployment scenario in Nagaland. He has attributed unemployment to the saturation of jobs in the government sector coupled with a lack of industrial activities.

With the alarming rise in unemployment, Longkumer viewed entrepreneurship as the only solution to address the unemployment issue in Nagaland.

He further expressed happiness to witness the participation of several entrepreneurs from Nagaland showcasing their products in the exhibition under the patronage of IIE, Guwahati.

The report further stated that Jasmina Zeliang from Nagaland was honoured with award of excellence in entrepreneurship by the ministry during the event. Longkumer congratulated her for the achievement.
