DIPHU — In a series of official engagements held across Diphu on Wednesday, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, took part in multiple development and welfare-related events, ranging from public transport enhancement to education and healthcare.
At the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at 5th Mile, Nihang Rongkethe on the Diphu–Manja Road, Ronghang flagged off two newly procured air-conditioned buses of the KAAC Transport Department. The buses, one equipped with an onboard toilet, will operate between Diphu and Guwahati. A ticket counter and canteen were also inaugurated at the site for passengers’ convenience.
The buses were purchased from the CEM’s discretionary fund. One bus has a capacity of 36+1 seats and cost INR 89.56 lakh, while the other, with 40+1 seats, cost INR 73.12 lakh. The CEM said all KAAC and private buses will operate from the ISBT to destinations including Hamren, Kheroni, Hojai, Nagaon, Bokajan, Jorhat, Tezpur and Guwahati.
Ronghang said the KAAC Transport Department is planning to introduce more buses with modern facilities to improve intra-district and inter-district connectivity. The ISBT also houses dedicated ticket counters, passenger waiting rooms, and stalls showcasing traditional garments of various communities.
At another event, the CEM handed over appointment letters to 338 regularised Karbi Language Teachers (KLTs) and Karbi Medium Teachers (KMTs) under the Karbi Language Development Board (KLDB) in a ceremonial function held at Sarsing Teron Memorial Town Hall, Matipung. These teachers will now be paid salaries on par with State government scales, receiving INR 31,670 per month.
The KLDB was established in 2008 to promote the Karbi language, with at least one Karbi medium school set up in each of the 26 MAC constituencies in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong. Speaking at the event, Ronghang said the decision to regularise the teachers followed a resolution in the KAAC Executive Committee meeting in line with NCERT guidelines.

Acknowledging concerns raised by some teachers who were not included due to eligibility criteria, the CEM assured that the matter would be addressed in the next EC meeting. He also urged teachers to attend classes regularly, citing complaints from villages about absenteeism.
Earlier in the day, Ronghang distributed application forms under the Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Asoni (MMNMA) 2.0 scheme during a ceremonial function at the Sarsing Teron Multipurpose Sports Complex. The event was organised by Diphu Government College (DGC), with support from the district administration and the office of the Inspector of Schools, Karbi Anglong Circle. A total of 244 students from DGC received the forms.
The scheme, a flagship initiative of the Assam government, provides monthly financial support to girl students – INR1,000 at higher secondary level, INR 1,250 at undergraduate level and INR2,500 at postgraduate level – with the aim of reducing dropout rates, promoting higher education, and preventing child marriage.
Addressing the students, Ronghang said the scheme was a transformative step towards empowering young women across the state. He reiterated KAAC’s commitment to expanding educational access, especially in rural and tribal areas, and called on students to believe in themselves and make full use of the opportunity.
Later, the CEM also inaugurated an MRI facility at Diphu Medical College and Hospital and handed over wheelchairs to the hospital management. The new equipment was formally received by Dr. Sumitra Hadjer, Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of the hospital.
