Chakhesang Clean Election Movement (CCEM) organised a joint prayer fellowship for the candidates of Chakhesang community on Thursday at The Pioneers’ Complex of Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC), T Chikri, in Pfütsero town under Phek district.
An update from CCEM stated that Rev. Vezopa Rhakho, CCEM chairman, presided over the programme. He stated that leaders who are elected through clean, fair and just means are honourable in the sight of God and man. He, therefore, urged the leaders to be loyal to the people and to be defenders of the faith.
Rev. David Koza, executive secretary of Chakhesang Christian Revival Church Council (CCRCC), read a passage from the Bible and prayed for the programme, while the welcome address was delivered by Rev. Dr. Vevo Phesao, president of CBCC.
Vezühü Keyho, CPO president, urged the candidates to play a friendly match without criticising each other and to respect the decisions of the apex body for the good cause of the community. He also urged the candidates to uphold the principles of clean election.
Rev. Dr. Chekroveyi Cho-o, CBCC executive secretary, called upon the gathering to abide by the teachings of Jesus Christ.
It informed that 17 Chakhesang candidates from Phek and Dimapur districts contesting in the upcoming general elections. It stated that 15 candidates from various political parties attended the programme along with their party functionaries.
It stated that the candidates have appreciated CCEM for organising the joint prayer fellowship and committed themselves to abide by the NBCC’s clean election guidelines.
It mentioned that church leaders from various denominations prayed for the candidates. The fellowship concluded with a benediction said by Rev. Khrotso Mero, former executive secretary of CBCC.
