DIMAPUR — The Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) has termed the proposed ‘Gau Dhwaj Sthapna Bharat Yatra’ on September 28 in Kohima as disturbing and called upon all its members to stiffly oppose the movement.

It mentioned that India is a secular country and every religion has the right to propagate its belief but blanket imposition of one’s belief on others in the form of a religious movement is extremely wrong and unacceptable.

CBCC executive secretary, Chekrovei Cho-o, has asked all its members to be vigilant and see that none of the church members under CBCC is a part of organising, supporting or participating in the said programme.

“We must all stand firm together against the religious subjugation and cultural invasion by the Hindu fanatics. Allowing this kind of movement with evil motive will not only suppress our Christian faith but also deeply disturb the social fabric of the people in Nagaland,” it stated.

It further warned that any member found involving in the anti-Christian movement would be liable to face disciplinary action.

In a separate statement, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) stated that the proposed yatra was a pre-meditated tactic to disturb the peaceful coexistence among the various religions in India.

It stated that imposition of one’s religion upon others would create disunity and disharmony among its citizens.

“To set the record very clear and straight, we are not going to make cow as our mother!” NFP affirmed.

It called upon the citizens of Nagaland to seriously ponder and go against such uncivilised activities interfering on other people of different faith. It has accused the organisers of the so-called yatra of intentionally trying to interfere in others’ religious practices and beliefs as well as food habits.

It further stated that any attempt by any individual or a group of people to declare cow as the “Mother of the nation” would tantamount to challenging the very essence of India whose citizens live in harmony because of its tolerance on all religions as India is particularly known for being a tolerant nation in terms of religious practice and worship.

In another statement, the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) too has opposed to organising ‘Gau Dhwaj Sthapna Bharat Yatra’ by a Hindu organisation Kohima on September 28.

“We will not allow any alien culture on our land to assert their principles and educate us of their beliefs, for every tenet may justify their lot, but it should not be asserted on the other,” WSYF said.

WSYF, while honouring Nagas’ inherent nature of humility and humanity, has welcomed each and every visitor, domestic and foreign to traverse smoothly across the state and find peace in the serene hills.
