CBC organises outreach programme on SVEEP in Peren

DIMAPUR — The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Field Office (FO), Kohima, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, organised a one-day integrated communication and outreach programme (ICOP) on systematic voter education and electoral participation (SVEEP) at Samziuram village in Peren district on Wednesday.

According to a press release, Iheu Hegeu, school administrator of Baptist High School, while speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, emphasised that every voter should understand the importance of their voting rights, noting that everyone should exercise their vote after carefully knowing the antecedents of candidates to elect a good leader who can take the community forward.

Numlu Pame, chairman of the Samziuram Village Council, speaking as the guest of honour, said that in order to build a strong and developed society, everyone needs to be educated and vote for the right leader who is committed and trustworthy.

Relui, the headmistress, speaking as the resource person, elaborated and enlightened the audience about ethical and informed voting, the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs), the voter’s verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT), the voter’s guide, and the responsibilities of presiding officers.

Dr. Engam Pame, regional director of CBC, RO, Imphal, informed the gathering that the right to vote is a constitutional right. He emphasised that in order to bring about a better and developed society, people need a good leader and good governance.

He stressed that every rightful voter should exercise their precious vote ethically and added that the Election Commission of India has introduced a mobile application called “C-VIGIL: Citizens Be Vigilant” to enable users to promptly report any election-related irregularities, violations of the model code of conduct (MCC), or instances of violence.

To further engage the audience, an on-the-spot quiz competition was held, and prizes along with certificates were distributed to the winners.

It informed that CBC, FO Kohima, will continue to conduct ICOP on SVEEP in the coming days, covering the following places: Mhaikam, Beisumpuikam, Peren town, Tesen, and Nngam under Peren district.
