Catholic congregation stage public rally in Manipur

Our Correspondent Imphal, August 16 (EMN): Catholic congregation in Ukhrul on Wednesday staged a public rally cum public gathering at Sacred Hr. Sec. School ground Hunpung in Ukhrul district, Manipur against the alleged denial to bury the dead body of late Rita Haorei in her village. Late Rita Haorei, a housewife from Ukhrul district, Manipur was expired on August 7 midnight and her body is said to be still lying inside the campus of Catholic Church at Litana town in Ukhrul located about 40 km north of Imphal. According to reports, the village authority of Laingangching, a hamlet refused to bury the body at the village on the ground that her family is banished from the village for “violating village norms” in 2010. In this regard, the public had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh through the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ukhrul to abolish “one village, one denomination” norms. Meanwhile, the Manipur Catholic Youth Organisation (MCYO) “Youth for Christ” has informed to organise a public rally in Imphal on August 17.
