Catholic Association of Nagaland holds leadership handover ceremony in Kohima; Jonas Yanthan takes charge as the new president.

DIMAPUR — The Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) held its handing and taking over ceremony at the Administrative Hall of Mary Help of Christians Cathedral, Kohima, on February 15, marking the formal transition of leadership for the new term.
According to a press release, in his exhortation, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, encouraged the newly elected office bearers to lead with humility, integrity, and a spirit of service, reminding them that leadership in the Church is entrusted for the good of the faithful and society at large.
The report for the period 2020–2026 was presented, highlighting key initiatives and activities undertaken during the tenure. Moses P Yimchunger, outgoing treasurer, presented the statement of accounts for the term, which was also duly adopted.
In his farewell address, outgoing president Dr. Johnny Ruangmei expressed gratitude to the clergy, executive members, and faithful for their support and prayers.

Reflecting on his tenure, he said, “This journey has been less about leadership and more about grace—God's grace working through ordinary and imperfect people like us.” He further observed that leadership in the Church is a shared pilgrimage and that the mission continues beyond individuals.
The formal transition of office included the signing of the handing-over document and the exchange of official files and financial records between the outgoing and incoming leadership.
Jonas Yanthan formally assumed office as the president of CAN, assuring the gathering of his commitment to serve faithfully in accordance with the constitution of the association and in communion with the Church.
The gathering included the Bishop and diocesan administrators, the parish priest of Mary Help of Christians Cathedral, officials of the Nagaland Catholic Women Association (NCWA) and the Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement (NCYM), former CAN officials, and members of the association.
