International University and Western Chakhesang Students' Union held a career guidance programme for students in Chümoukedima on July 7.

DIMAPUR — A one-day career guidance programme for students was organised by International University, Nagaland (IUN), in collaboration with the Western Chakhesang Students' Union (WCSU) at the university's campus at Sodzülhou and Kozabe village, Chümoukedima, on Tuesday.
According to an update, the programme was attended by students, parents, members of the WCSU, and faculty members.
Delivering the keynote address, Registrar of International University Dr. Roopam Bachhil highlighted the importance of selecting programmes of study based on students' aptitude, interests, financial considerations, and emerging employment opportunities.
She encouraged students to make well-informed decisions by evaluating academic quality, industry relevance, research opportunities, and practical learning experiences while choosing institutions of higher education.
Dr. Bachhil also stressed the advantages of pursuing quality education within Nagaland, noting that students can benefit from affordability, proximity to family, and a supportive learning environment while contributing to the state's social and economic development.
She observed that higher education institutions in Nagaland are steadily expanding their academic offerings and strengthening industry linkages, enabling students to pursue rewarding careers without leaving the state. She further encouraged students to remain committed to continuous learning, adaptability, and lifelong skill development.
The gathering was also addressed by President of the WCSU, Arazo Nyekha, who encouraged students to make the best use of career guidance programmes, educational interactions, and mentoring opportunities.
The career talk was delivered by Director of International University Zavise Rume, who provided insights into changing career trends, emerging employment sectors, entrepreneurship, innovation, and the importance of developing practical skills alongside academic qualifications.
He pointed out that the future job market increasingly values creativity, problem-solving, communication, digital literacy, and adaptability, encouraging students to embrace interdisciplinary learning and continuous self-improvement. He also highlighted the growing opportunities in technology, healthcare, business, tourism, agriculture, education, and entrepreneurship.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion during which students raised questions related to career planning, higher education, professional preparation, scholarships, and future employment prospects.
The second session featured a presentation by Joint Registrar Dr. Durga Malakar on skill-based courses, career opportunities, admission procedures, scholarships, internships, and student support services available at the university.
She highlighted the growing importance of skill-orientated education in today's changing employment landscape and encouraged students to complement their academic learning with practical training, internships, and industry exposure. An interactive question-and-answer session followed.
The third session comprised an open interaction between the resource persons and participants, providing students and parents with an opportunity to discuss higher education pathways, career aspirations, professional development, entrepreneurship, and future employment opportunities.
Earlier, the chairperson, Social and Cultural Secretary of the WCSU, Yhevelü Tetseo, in her welcome address, highlighted the importance of career guidance in enabling students to make informed academic and professional decisions in a rapidly changing world.
She encouraged students to carefully explore available opportunities, acquire relevant skills, and prepare themselves to become responsible citizens.
