Captain N Kenguruse tournament kicks off in Kohima

KOHIMA — The eighth edition of the Captain N Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra Memorial Football Tournament began on Saturday at Indira Gandhi (IG) Stadium in Kohima.

A total of 16 teams from across Nagaland are participating in the 10-day tournament under ‘Operation Sadbhavana,’ which will culminate on November 12.

Themed ‘bigger better bolder’, the tournament is being organised by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles to commemorate the legacy of Captain Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra, for his bravery during the Kargil War.

Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, AVSM, YSM, GOC Spear Corps, attended the opening ceremony and remembered Captain Kenguruse as an inspiration to the people of Nagaland and the nation.

Neiselie Kenguruse, the father of Captain Kenguruse, expressed his appreciation to the Indian Army and Assam Rifles for organising the tournament in honour of his son. He thanked all the participants and everyone involved for their contributions. He encouraged the participants to view the tournament from a broader perspective and to expand their horizons.

The opening ceremony showcased various artists and personalities, such as the Tetseo Sisters, Imna Yaden, the Fifth Note band, and Kenei Ritse, Miss Northeast 2023.

The opening match was contested between Mez & Co FC Kohima and Young Generation FC, with Mez & Co FC Kohima winning 5-2.
