Capt. Kenguruse Tournament: Holy Angels, St. Xavier’s and Beckon FC register wins

KOHIMA — Holy Angels Sports Team from Noklak, St. Xavier’s College, Jalukie and Beckon FC from Phek, won their respective matches at the ongoing 7th edition of the Late N Kenguruse Mahavir Chakra Memorial Football Tournament, played here at IG Stadium on Saturday. 

In the first match of the day, Holy Angels Sports Team secured a spot in the quarter-finals by defeating A Yhome FC from Kohima district with a 5-3 scoreline.

The goals for Holy Angels were scored by Lonkhoi, who netted a brace in the 33rd and 80th minutes, while Tangsoi, Muthiu and Lamsong contributed a goal each in the 39th, 40th and 84th minutes, respectively.

A Yhome managed to score through Thejasetuo, who netted a brace in the 14th and 30th minutes, and Vilhoubeituo, who scored in the 57th minute.

In the second match, St. Xavier’s College secured a narrow 2-1 victory against Peace United FC from Phek, in a closely contested game.

The goals for St. Xavier’s College were scored by Ipeuwangbe in the 26th minute and Eshibe in the 44th minute.

The lone goal for Peace United was scored by DS Nakro in the 45th minute.

In the third match, Beckon FC narrowly edged past Vanguard Academy from Tseminyu 3-2.

Beckon FC’s goals were scored by Veyi, Kozo and Kuthoseyi in the 34th, 54th and 86th minutes, respectively.

Vanguard Academy’s talisman Kati managed to score a brace in the 66th and 67th minutes.

November 6 match fixture

1st quarterfinal – Tiema-Khe Kidima (Kohima) FC vs. Liangmai FC (Peren) – 8 am

2nd quarterfinal – Western Sumi Sports Association (Niuland) vs. Medziphema Royals FC (Chümoukedima) – 1 pm
