CHUMOUKEDIMA — A cancer screening camp was conducted at Holy Redeemer Health Centre in Chümoukedima on Monday, in collaboration with St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore.

Doctors from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, including Dr. Shashikala, who leads the obstetrics and gynaecology (OBG) department, and Dr. Vishakha from the OBG Oncology department, supervised the screening, while Dr. Antoly Swu, deputy chief medical officer, Dimapur, spearheaded the camp

They received assistance from Rev. Sr. Dr. Rosemary UFC, Dr. Angeline, and other hospital personnel.

During the screening, it was highlighted that Nagaland is one of the states with the highest prevalence of cancer in the country. Due to inadequate facilities for its management, numerous patients are forced to seek treatment outside the state, resulting in a significant financial burden as well as emotional and psychological strain. This situation often leads to disruptions in family and social relationships.

Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, the Bishop of Kohima; Rev. Fr. John Thekkekkara, deputy director of St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore; and Razouvotuo Chatsu, president of Angami Public Organisation (APO), were also present at the event.
