Call for inclusivity marks ACID’s commemoration of International Migrants Day
DIMAPUR — The Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID), with support from Missionszentrale der Franziskaner (MZF) and the National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM) Nagaland region, commemorated International Migrants Day at Sewak Rio Colony in Dimapur on Monday.
According to a press release, Sr. Pramila, director of ACID, speaking on the occasion, expressed that the day is to reflect upon the profound impact of migration on individuals, communities, and the interconnected world and added that the day serves as a reminder that migration is not just about crossing borders but the pursuit of hope, opportunity, and a better life.
In a world of diverse cultures and traditions, Sister Pramila said migration weaves a tapestry celebrating the resilience and courage of millions venturing into the unknown. She further noted that the day acknowledges and honours the contributions of migrants, who enrich societies with their talents, skills, and perspectives.
She recognised that in Dimapur, be it domestic workers, construction workers, or others, migrants contribute greatly and help one another for better livelihoods. However, she questioned how many recognise their skills, contributions, and generosity. Sr. Pramila said it is up to the people to reflect on this.
Advocating fair and humane treatment for migrants, she emphasised the shared responsibility of fostering a world where every person gets the dignity they deserve. She said borders should connect, not divide, people.
The commemoration aimed to build bridges of understanding, empathy, and cooperation towards a world where migrants’ journeys are met with compassion and inclusivity.
A total of 98 participants attended the event.
